The Chronology of our History
The archives of the Prefecture of Rodopi were established with the publication of Law 1946/91 on the General Archives of the State, this law defines the legislative framework that governs the operation of the GSA, as an independent public service that reports directly to the Minister of Education and religions.
1991
Operation
The operation of the Service began on November 1, 1994, according to the decision Ist/F.Diok/1156/24.10.1994 of the Department of Historical Archives of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs and the GSA. Rodopis have been based since then in the capital of the prefecture, Komotini.
1994
First Building
During their first years of operation (1/11/1994-31/8/1998) the GSA-Archives of the Prefecture of Rodopi were hosted in the premises of the Komotini Town Hall, while from 1/9/1998 until 31/8/1999 The service was hosted by the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Rodopi at the Technical High School of Komotini. From 1/9/1999, by decision of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the concession to the Rhodopes office files on the 1st floor of the renovated building of the old economic high school of Komotini was approved, where the center was also housed of Counseling and Orientation (KE.SY.P) of Rodopi.
2008
Housing
Since December 2008, the service has been housed in a rented building at 19 Dimrou Dimitriou Bletsa Street in the center of the city of Komotini. The building was built in 1955 and until the 1970s it housed the Surgery Clinic Papadimitriou. The building has a total area of 220.00 sq.m and has offices, auxiliary spaces, four archives and a reading room.
